Job Summary         

Responsible for student loan problems, borrower advisement, electronic data and fund transfer transactions with Department of Education. Reconcile all loan transaction records. Assure proper disposition of loan proceeds within federal regulations and audit requirements. Oversee origination & disbursement of approximately $25 million in Direct Loans.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties              

  • Serve as a primary contact and liaison with the Department of Education. Transmit student application and disbursement information and reconcile transmission records. Schedule and initiate electronic fund transfers for Stafford and PLUS loans from state guarantee agency and other entities; reconcile all transactions. Monitor all loan applications and transactions. Return loan funds to Dept of Education as required due to cancellations, return of funds, or aging.
  • Serve as primary contact for student borrowers, providing one on one counseling and liaison between students and the Department of Education.
  • Ensure that student borrowers have met all eligibility requirements, including loan counseling and satisfactory academic progress prior to release of loan proceeds, meeting individually with students to resolve problems and intercede with the Department of Education or loan servicers when needed for problem resolution.
  • Ensure that stringent federal and state regulations governing receipt and proper disposition of loan funds are met in order to avoid liability to the college and delays in disbursement to students.
  • Update borrower status with the Department of Education, loan servicers, and other entities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications             

  • Experience in financial aid.

Minimum Qualifications             

  • Associate’s degree.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years experience in financial aid or federal student loans.
  • Able to trade experience for education on a one-to-one basis.
  • Part-time experience may be substituted for full-time experience on a prorated basis.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities    

  • Knowledge of computerized financial aid system, preferably Banner.
  • Must have a working knowledge of COD system and NSLDS.
  • Knowledge of Title IV financial aid, specifically direct loans.
  • Knowledge of FERPA.
  • Knowledge of College policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Must pay high attention to details.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties 

Implement and maintain reporting procedures and requirements for the National Student Loan Data System; under direction of assistant director, test computer system updates and/or procedural revisions necessitated by federal or regulations, including installation and testing of new software and computer system upgrades and revisions; resolve staff and/or student loan related problems in adherence with all relevant laws and regulations.
