The State Agency Counsel Division of the Utah Attorney General's Office has an immediate opening for an attorney with approximately five to ten years of experience to represent the Utah Department of Corrections as part of the Corrections Section. This position will primarily be responsible for representing Adult Probation and Parole in a variety of matters. It specifically requires an ability to prepare for and participate in evidentiary hearing as counsel for Adult Probation and Parole. Other duties include representing the client in court hearings, providing legal counsel on issues related to supervision of offenders, and counseling on preparation of Presentence Investigation Reports. Additionally, the position requires the attorney to respond to subpoenas and other discovery requests on behalf of the Department of Corrections, as well as provide contract and policy review, preparation of legal opinions, monitoring of litigations, responds to offender inquires, and other related responsibilities. Applicants must possess excellent written and oral advocacy skills and have the experience and ability to immediately take over an existing caseload. Experience with the criminal justice system is preferred. Membership in the Utah State Bar in good standing is required. The position is located in Salt Lake City.
